Science & Reptiles

The kids had science night last month where they got to dissect owl pellets, look at fossils, touch jellyfish, other ocean creature, snakes, stuffed "live" animals and other gross things. Amanda and I found the remains (lots of bones, including the skulls) of 3 mice in 1 owl pellet. That was yummy! We also had fun in the touch and feel area looking at and touching various dead and alive creatures. The last couple years Bryan had taken Blake to this, but this year Amanda and I went too and it was pretty interesting. I couldn't believe Amanda actually held the snake. She is usually scared of these types of animals, but she liked it and didn't want to share it. Next pet??? A big NO!

We went to a store in Fountain Valley called Prehistoric Pets. They have about every type of species of snakes in there, no kidding. They also have spiders, tortoises, fish, frogs, etc. We fed the fish and water turtles meal worms with big tweezers. You have to actually hold onto the tweezers or the big huge fish will take them along with their worm. They had this cool water monitor (big lizard) cruising around the store. It was huge and had a long tongue, like a snake. Lauren wanted nothing to do with it, since it was bigger than her, but there was this one little girl who was enjoying picking off it's skin and leaving it all over the floor. GROSS! The store was interesting and if your kids like reptiles you should visit it. Be prepared to walk out of the store with a headache though because it does stink pretty bad in there.
